During the afternoon hours of Wednesday May 2nd Union Hill Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 6900 block of Lakeside Rd for the brush fire out of control. Engine 133 arrived and reported a large brush fire well off the road. Ontario Fire Company BR-30 was requested mutual aid to the scene to assist with fire suppression. Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading towards any structures.
Shortly after crews picked up from Lakeside Rd Union Hill Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for the mulch fire at the Kwik-Fill on Route 104, Engine 133 arrived and was able to contain the small fire to one mulch bed.
A Red Flag warning was issued by the US National Weather Service- Buffalo, NY station early that same morning. “A red flag warning means that dangerous fire weather conditions are expected due to the combination of gusty winds, low relative humidities and dry fuels” And as a reminder there is still a Burn Ban in effect in NYS until May 14th.
